Tucson woman, 87, killed in home invasio

A woman died after she was shot in the stomach during a home invasion on Tucson’s eastside Tuesday morning.

Frida Beezley, 87, was pronounced dead at a hospital hours after she was shot at a home in the 2900 block of South Marvin Avenue, near South Kolb and East Golf Links roads, said Sgt. Matt Ronstadt, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The woman’s son was shot in the arm during the home invasion, Ronstadt said.

The son called 911 about 11 a.m. to report that he and his mother had been shot by two men, he said.

The man said he heard his dogs barking in the back yard of the home, and when he opened to door two men forced their way inside.

The man told police the intruders were armed and used masks or bandanas to cover their face.

The man grabbed his own gun, and he and the intruders exchanged gunfire.

It is not known if the suspects were shot. They were gone by the time officers arrived.

The son was taken to a different hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Tucson home invasion burglary Ameritech

Two men who were convicted for their roles in a Tucson home invasion plot were sentenced to prison Monday.

Judge Jane Eikleberry sentenced Andre Armstrong, 49, to 10 years in prison.

Clifton Cuttler, 30, was sentenced to 15 years and nine months in prison on one count and 10 years on a second count, but he will be allowed to serve the sentences at the same time.

They  were each convicted of misconduct involving body armor during a September jury trial. Cuttler was also convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated robbery.

Another co-defendant, Marcus Tucker, is serving 15 years and nine months in prison. A fourth co-defendant, Torson Diaz, who is Armstrong’s nephew, pleaded guilty earlier this month.

The four men were arrested March 15 when they went to El Con Mall to drive to the target with undercover police officers, whom they believed to be narcotics traffickers from Mexico. The plan to steal 44 pounds of cocaine involved guns, body armor and zip ties.
